Thorney, Peterborough – Wednesday 24 September 2025
Business leaders, local politicians, and transport officers gathered in Thorney for a well-attended Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce Business Breakfast focused on the A47 and need for investment in road infrastructure. The event brought together key stakeholders and businesses to discuss infrastructure improvements and gather support for the A47 Alliance’s campaign to dual the vital transport corridor.
Mayor Paul Bristow of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority delivered a keynote speech, highlighting the strategic importance of the A47 to regional growth and connectivity. Representatives from National Highways provided an informative presentation outlining their role, current operations and schemes on the A47.
Councillor Graham Plant, Chairperson of the A47 Alliance, presented the Alliance’s ambition for dualling the A47. A short engagement session was also held with chamber members giving attendees an opportunity to share their experiences and concerns about the road, reinforcing the need for investment and improvement. Input from businesses helped to highlight the challenges of using the A47 and added further context to the case for investment.
The A47 Alliance continues to call on government to commit to A47 dualling to unlock economic potential and improve safety and efficiency for all road users. The A47 Alliance is also lobbying for the reinstation of government funding for two recently cancelled A47 dualling and improvement schemes at Wansford, Peterborough and Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
