A47 Alliance Steering Group Meeting 13 October 2023
The A47 Alliance Steering Group met for our third meeting of the year on the 13 October 2023. The meeting was well attended by local authority members and officers from across Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, business leaders, MPs and their officers.
National Highways provided a helpful update on the progress of the RIS1 funded schemes. North Tuddenham to Easton dualling, Blofield to North Burlingham dualling and Thickthorn junction improvements remain in the process of legal challenge and the Great Yarmouth junction improvement schemes are progressing with Harfreys Roundabout improvements set to open with the Third River Crossing. Works are soon to start on Wansford to Sutton dualling and the Guyhirn junction improvement scheme is complete!
The A47 Alliance now awaits the publishing of RIS3. The A47 was not included in the list of schemes to be funded from the money saved from HS2. The A47 Alliance continues to campaign for significant investment in the route despite this.
The A47 Alliance Steering Group meeting then moved to discuss the campaign progress and next steps. We have seen increasing engagement on the A47 Alliance's social media. Make sure you follow our Twitter / X and Facebook accounts to help boost this and spread the message. We have also been collating testimonials from members of the A47 Alliance, MPs, residents and businesses which help show the breadth and depth of support for A47 dualling and improvements.
The A47 Alliance now looks to continue the campaign, raise the business voice across the region and lobby central government and key decision makers to commit significant investment in the A47 which is vital to local communities, businesses, industries and economic growth.
